The Psalmopoeus genus is a favorite among the new world arboreals.  Most of the species get to a good size as adults, have no urticating hairs, and have a very sleek and agile build.  They also come in a healthy assortment of colors, meaning there is one for any pallet.

P. cambridgei is probably the most common and available psalmopoeus, and with good reason.  Out of every species in the genus that we have kept, there is no doubt that the title of beast is best earned by cambridgei.  These generally get larger than any of the other species, and sport a deep mossy green color as adults that fades to grey before a molt.  Unfortunately the true color is hard to catch on photograph.  Like most Psalmopoeus species, cambridgei can grow very rapidly, gaining huge size increases with each molt, and to help out with the growth, cambridgei has probably the strongest feeding response in the genus, and larger specimens will often "Play Catch" if you throw their food into the enclosure, and will chase a stream of water from a spray bottle around their enclosure with lightning speed.   While not the flashiest of spiders in terms of color, this one definitely deserves a spot as a hobby staple.
