A true classic. Grammostola porteri, the rose hair tarantula (Common name is shared with some other species as well) This is a species of tarantula native to Chile, which is well known in the hobby as one of the longest lived species available, and one of the slowest growing... As adults porteri can reach about 6 inches in legspan and can live for several decades. They are usually about as mellow as a tarantula can get, and almost never will even throw hairs, let alone a threat pose. While there are some people out there that think this species is not exciting enough due to the lack of flashy colors, and the slow growth rate, they are a personal favorite of mine, and unfortunately, they can be hard to come by. Care is very simple, they will use a stereotypical terrestrial terrarium, which is kept primarily arid.
