Female Subadult
The Mexican red knee tarantula is a icon in the hobby. This species from Mexico is a perfect example of a terrestrial tarantula. In captivity, as juveniles and adults, they do well on primarily dry substrate with a water dish, and they typically will do minimal burrowing and hiding. (Slings are more likely to burrow and we recommend keeping more moisture in the substrate than for larger individuals). These tend to have a fairly mellow personality and while they will sometimes flick some hairs, you can expect a threat posture to be a very rare site indeed. Sporting deep black color with banding of red-Yellow on the legs, this is a wonderful display species for keepers who want beautiful spiders that are almost always visible.
