Current size: 1"
The rear horned baboon tarantula. This very unique species from Africa is a true gem. It sports a large rear pointing horn on the top of it's carapace that is very uncommon in tarantulas. It's an average size species reaching around 5" in females and having males typically maturing notably smaller. These can be kept in an arid enclosure and should have adequate substrate for the spider to burrow. Don't worry about never seeing the spider though, because despite the propensity to burrow, they are often caught out and also if you provide good decoration for webbing anchors above surface, they will make you plenty of web art to view if they aren't out and about. With a great feeding response but rarely any attitude toward people, this is another wonderful species for people cautious about making the jump into old world species.
